Dont expect a pristine varnished wooden centre piece for the price, they are varnished (sort of) on the up side and sparsely underneath. Wood is pretty rough in places underneath and the table joints dont line up that well, but the actual seating side is smooth as is the facing table side. Apart from being a bit rough and ready it is quite a good table. I purchased the longer and thinner table without the centre hole to use as a makeshift dining table for Christmas as we have no room for a permanent one. We seated 10 with a squeeze, 4 each side on the benches and one at each end using separate chairs. Although the table is thinner, you can get all the plates on with a bit of juggling and offsetting them slightly. I was worried that the benches would not take the weight, they bowed a bit but were fine. As the table is thinner than a normal dining table you sit quite close to your opposite partner which we found great as you are all close together to chat and enjoy. We have used it three times since Christmas and my youngest wants to borrow it when it is her turn to host the next mum and toddler get together. If you want to leave it outside tho, it will need a few coats of varnish. The inner edges are not varnished at all

Disappointing, poorly made, and soul crushingly full of wood putty and factory worker footprints in the underside varnish. We've lived in Germany for many years, and know a good fest table in a nearly biblical fashion. This isn't just a cheap factory version, the product supervisors should feel ashamed of what they've made. Utter junk.
